Many people find it quaint to stay in heritage hotels along the route and drive a rented Mustang or a vintage car. I did not.
Reviews for the majority of these hotels ranged from horrid and scary to lukewarm and too expensive for what you get. The Blue Swallow stood out as an exception thanks to the owners who have painstakingly maintained standards and made this motel a destination. I liked that my room came with a garage for Maximus and a couple lawn chairs to sit outside.
Around town are other motels, fast food options, souvenir shops, a car wash (which I used), plus a refurbished Texaco station in avocado.
